Parlodel (generic name: bromocriptine; brand names include: Proctinal) is a dopamine agonist.
Parlodel is used for the treatment of:
Disorders due to high prolactin levels (eg., excessive or abnormal breast milk production and certain menstrual and fertility problems)
Parlodel works by blocking the release of prolactin from the pituitary gland and lowering growth hormone levels (in patients with acromegaly). In Parkinson disease, Parlodel works by stimulating dopamine receptors in certain parts of the brain.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Parlodel exactly as directed.
Parlodel is usually taken once or twice a day. It also may be taken several times a day to treat certain conditions.
Try to take Parlodel at the same times each day to avoid missing any doses. Swallow your dose with a small glass of water at a meal time.
Do not stop taking Parlodel suddenly without talking with your doctor.
If you forget to take Parlodel and you take it several times a day, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it and take any remaining doses for that day at evenly spaced intervals. However, if you remember a missed dose when it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Keep Parlodel in a cool, dry place, away from direct heat and light.
Before taking Parlodel, tell your doctor if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
